Rough Draft: Human Trafficking and its Relationship throughout these United States A serious crime that virtually affects every country in the world is human trafficking. Human trafficking is a multi-national criminal business that’s roots are tied into â€Å"trans-criminal organizations, small criminal networks and local gangs, violations of labor and immigration codes, and government corruption† (Richard, 1999; U.S. Government Accountability Office, 2006.). Typically human trafficking has been defined as trading women and children for prostitution. As of late, trafficking has grown to include other types of force, fraud, or coercion, beyond sexual exploitation (USDHHS, pg. 3). The United States Congress has defined human trafficking into†¦show more content†¦8). Most common of these victims are deceived, manipulated, forced, or coerced minors. Those who fall victim of human trafficking have both long and short-term needs. It is common for victims to experienc e post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a disorder most common with torture victims and overseas military veterans, once removed from the trafficking scene. Beyond the victims basic needs, long-term needs such as housing, legal assistance, acquiring a job, job training, education, and family reunification. For some victims of labor trafficking, long-term medical care may be needed due to disabilities resulting from harsh treatment. Victims of sex trafficking may specifically benefit from substance abuse treatment and mental health counseling. To provide for these many needs of trafficking victims, there are many forward steps being taken to facilitate, and help these individuals. Due to the very different and complex needs of each victim, it is impossible for one single agency to respond effectively to the population. However, there are many non-profit and private organizations that have helped and continue to help trafficking victims on a daily basis. An example of this combat aga inst human trafficking is the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence (FCADV), (USDHHS, pg. 22).
